As I was looking for Uniden radio scanners online, I found the Uniden BC370CRS 300-Channel Clock Radio Scanner and I saw good reviews of the product. So I went ahead and bought it from Amazon for a bargain price that was cheap enough for me not to mind if the device wasn't good at all. But I was so happy to find that I wasn't wrong at all with purchasing this product. So here I am describing every bit of this scanner to inform others about what a great device it is.
Design
It's definitely a classy and very good-looking device that I would love to add to my home decor. I put this unit on my living room side table so all my guests see it, and they all think it's some sort of techie clock or radio. It might even pass as a cool calculator with the digits and all. It has a sleek, dark silver design that's very easy on the eyes, with black buttons and silver tuners for the volume and squelch. It's nice and compact with the dimensions of 20.9cm x 14.8cm x 8.1cm and a weight of 1.5 pounds. It's easy enough to transfer from one room to another, and the small footprint makes it easier to settle on any tabletop or desk.
The buttons are simple and very easy to use. Every function has a specific function, whether it's for the radio, the alarm clock, or the scanner. Having three devices for the price of one is also an awesome bonus that I got when I bought this because I just thought it was a plain scanner. It's very functional and simple, I don't think any other scanner can compete with it.
Scanning and Audio Output
I have had few Uniden radio scanners in my entire lifetime, but I know the name. And I knew this had something good to offer even if I didn't read its specs. I wasn't wrong. This unit has 300 channels and you can store them all separately in 10 banks, giving you a maximum of 30 channels per bank. You can even select a priority channel for each bank, so you have 10 priority channels which the device scans every 2 seconds for any updates. There are also five preprogrammed service channels which you can search to find certain frequencies for police, fire/emergency, ham, air, and marine departments.
The audio output of this model has a maximum of 0.9W. There are two antennas included in the package to produce better reception: a telescoping antenna and an AM radio loop antenna. No wonder I get so clear and perfectly audible reception.
Other Features
This is a multifunctional device because it has a clock and an AM/FM radio. But what's more awesome is that the clock has an alarm and the settings can be navigated and manipulated just like an ordinary alarm clock. The time setting is automatically set based on the precise time which is broadcast by NIST stations so you no longer have to set the time. The single alarm setting allows you to choose whether you want a radio station or an alarm tone to be set as alarm sound, or you can just turn it off. There's also a functional snooze button to add five more minutes to your sound sleep.
The radio also has good features. The radio broadcasts AM, FM, and TV 2-13 stations. You can save up to 30 preset stations for easier tuning - 10 AM and 20 FM/TV stations. But that's not all that this unit has to offer.
The scanner has various other features found in many Uniden scanners. The lockout function allows you to skip over specified frequencies or channels to make scanning much faster. You can also tune in to certain channels immediately by using the direct channel access function. The two-second delay allows you to stay in a frequency while there are active transmissions, and only after two seconds of inactivity will it continue scanning. The LCD backlight can even be turned on or off depending on your reference and the LCD contrast can also be set to the most comfortable level for optimal viewing. There's a memory back-up that has all your channels saved in case of a power outage. The battery icon shows if there are no batteries installed and if there are, it also indicates whether the battery power is running low. It automatically turns off once the power has become too low.
Conclusion
Who wouldn't be impressed with those specs? I know Uniden radio scanners were great but this one is just outstanding. I love it and I would never trade it for any other model, that's for sure. I'm even thinking about getting one for my dad this Christmas. So if you're also on the lookout for some great scanners for gift items or personal use, I highly recommend the Uniden BC370CRS 300-Channel Clock Radio Scanner as the perfect option.
